SPRING is a cool season, too. Days are longer, boys and girls seem prettier and the weather is warmer. SPRING is also the name chosen by a French band. They formed in 1993 and reigned during the whole decade thanks to their charm and savoir-faire. They first appeared on an Icerink compilation, the label ran by ST ETIENNE’s headmaster Bob Stanley, with an instrumental called... “Bob Cool”. Soon after, they signed with the tasty Spanish label Elefant Records. They realised their first Ep last February, “Something Beginning” (ER-163), a three songs affair described as a pastoral cross between FELT and Françoise Hardy. Then came a dance-pop CD-Single with French Dj’s INDURAIN and EXTRA LUCID, and, finally, their debut album, the superb “Tokyo Drifter”.

The song which opens and titles this CD-single is “Matinées”, one of the best songs in their celebrated LP “Tokyo Drifter”, which along with their debut EP “Something Beginning” and the remixes CD-Single “Be My Star” completes their discography). On this track, sung in French on a duet with MOOSE’s Kevin McKillop (who also sings on “Eldorado”), the impressive ending is preluded by a precious change, with a simple, suggestive keyboard arrangement which cradles Kevin’s recitation.

Along with the acoustic version of “Shakin´Will”, a song included as well on the album (recorded live on a session for RNE-Radio 3 nationwide program “Discogrande”), we find two new samples, unreleased until now, of their nice and sweet composing: “Good Luck Charm” (which, in spite of their acknowledged devotion for Elvis, has nothing to see with the classic tune sung by the King) and “Eldorado”, which confirm how mature SPRING’s personality is, owners of a style of their own distinguished by the acoustic background, the lack of drums, Alex’s melancholic, insinuating voice and a beautiful truss of inspired pianos and delicate guitar arrangements.

The sleeve design, as it’s already usual on all their records, it’s exquisite. Done once again by Magic Design/4UMAN, it enhances and magnifies the separately outstanding elegance of the music. A new treasure to enlarge your collection.

Track Name: Como Un Aviador
